Samuel Taylor Moore was in the 1916 Pershing's War
Was the first to be in the Air Force.
He was an accredited correspondent
HE WAS IN The first tactical unit of the Air Force which was then the aviation section of the Signal Corps which was down in Columbus New Mexico/El PAso Texas
At the time there were only about 50 planes in the entire air force.The planes had only three instruments An unreliable compass a tachometer and a fuel gauge.He went on to observation balloons In the years between the Mexican and WWI he was a writer
He was one of the first men to make a transcontinental flight
He was on the initial flight on the dirigible AKRON .In WWI he was in the Balloon Corps
Wrote for the Saturday Evening Post.among other magazines and newspapers.
He was a correspondent for the United Press and covered the White House.Accepted into the Balloon Section of the Army Air Force and received an FAI license numbered 106He was commander of the 7TH Balloon Company
In 1924 he flew the route in Army D-H's
WWII included service on the Barrage Balloon Board
as chief of the Far East Section of the Air Branch
and acting A-2 ASSAM Air Defense Command India
and executive officer Command SEAC.
Eleven combat missions including a record 2400 mile mission in 1942 from PANDAVESWAR India .
He also participated in the first fly-in of
General WINGATE'S CHINDITS on the CHOWRINGHEE airship in Burma.
There is more on this interesting man who was in service from 1916 right through the Korean war, but that's it for now : )
