Current Bid: USD 11.49
Up for bid is a brand new keychain with bottle opener. It is 2 inches in diameter, and very similar in style to a pinback button. On the front it says “HUNTER BLOWS” with a picture of a harmonica in the middle. The back is where the bottle opener is located. Hunter refers to Dr. Earnest Howard Hunter Davis. He was an English professor at Slippery Rock University. He would play his harmonica in class frequently. He is without a doubt, the most beloved figure in Slippery Rock’s history. He passed away in October of 2006. May he rest in peace. Yes, Slippery Rock is a real place and has gained a following due to it’s unique name. It is north of Pittsburgh and is home to Division II Slippery Rock University. Here’s some tidbits about Slippery Rock: Slippery Rock’s name supposedly comes from an interesting footnote in history. General George Washington and his troops were pursuing the Seneca Indians near Slippery Rock Creek. A shot fired by the Indians missed Washington only because he slipped on a rock and fell. The Indians called the creek, "Wechachochapohka”, which means slippery rock. The Slippery Rock University Football team has been called, “the Snoopy of college football”. Public address announcers at Division I schools traditionally announce the Slippery Rock score last during the halftime report. It receives the greatest applause whether The Rock is winning or losing. USA Today’s Erik Brady once wrote, “Slippery Rock is the USA’s college football cult team”. The college has an infamous reputation for partying. Students from nearby Grove City and Westminster Colleges frequently come to Slippery Rock just to party. Playboy Magazine has ranked Slippery Rock University in its lists of top party schools. Many students fabricate this by saying it was ranked the #1 Party School. Slippery Rock University’s most famous alum is without a doubt, Donnie Iris. Yes, the man in the dorky glasses attended school here in the early 60’s. He never graduated, but later became a rock superstar with hits such as ‘The Rapper’ and ‘Ah! Leah!’. Perhaps his song ‘Love Is like A Rock’ was inspired by his Slippery Rock days.
