This beauty has been hand made and fashioned by a great Purpecha artisan that I met in Morelia Mexico. She is a skillful and popular artist in that area of Mexico. This sturdy piece of art is approximately 6 X 8 inches. The Purpecha Indians are a very traditional tribe living in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico in the State of Michoacan. They still speak their native Indian tongue and adhere to many of the ancient customs. Today Purepecha descendants number over 120,000. They make a number of crafts and art including charming sculptures from area clay which they hand paint. They combine Catholicism with their native beliefs resulting in wonderfully colorful and fanciful folk art. - Payment should be sent within 7 days after auction.
