This auction is for two unused postcards. The size is 5 1/2" by 3 1/2". The first card has a caption on the back that reads, "The Thor Agena B Discoverer XXVI was launched on July 7, 1961. Some 3 days later a capsule was ejected and later recovered in mid-air northwest of Hawaii after 32 orbits. Discoverer XXVI is somewhat larger than its predecessors attaining a height of 80 feet.". The credits show, "Plastichrome by COLOURPICTURE PUBLISHERS, INC., BOSTON 36, MASS. U.S.A. - Made in U. S. A. - Photo by U.S.A.F.". The second card has a caption that reads, "Launch of the Mercury Redstone vehicle carrying spacecraft Freedom 7 with Navy Commander Alan Shepard aboard. The launch took place on May 5, 1961 and Commander Shepard became the first Astronaut in space. ". The credits read the same as the first card with this exception instead of Photo by USAF it shows, "Color by NASA". The condition of both of these cards is great with bumped corners.
