This is a great WORKING, old metal bank. I just fed it a nickel (free to winning bidder) and the display went from 00.75 to 00.80. The dollars and cents are tracked in two separate windows (see photos).
There is awesome art deco detailing on every side except the bottom.
Text on front reads:
Universal Three Coin Registering and Adding Bank/Nickels Dimes Quarters/ Pat Sep 9 1905
Text on top near coin slot reads:
Deposit One Coin/And Register it Before Depositing Another
Text on back reads:
DIRECTIONS/To open coin chute, carefully pull lever down to bottom of slot and then push it up to top of slot and release it. Now deposit ONE coin and operate lever same as before, then coin will be registered and added.
Move lever smoothly and never jerk it down or let it fly back. Deposit one coin at a time and see that it is registered before depositing another. When ten dollars has been deposited 0000 will appear on the register. The door on the bottom will then open automatically. Remove all the coins and close the door.
Manufactured and controlled by Chas. W. Shonk Co., Chicago, U.S.A. Patented Sept. 19 1905. Other patents pending.
I have no idea if it really opens automatically at ten dollars, and I’m not about to feed it another 184 nickels to find out ☺, but you can open the chute manually (see photos)
Please feel free to ask questions.
I also have two more photos that I will be happy to email you upon request.
