DESCRIPTION
Up for auction is this "HOTPOINT" iron dating back to 1940's/1950's. Featuring black bakelite and chrome, this iron definately has some eye catching appeal. The hotpoint logo is stamped into a chrome panel underneath the handle, and is surrounded with streamlines to give it a real Art Deco feel. This logo panel is an independant piece and can be removed - it has curved sides which clamp it in position. The iron has its original cord, which shows some fraying and a couple of taped repairs. The plug head has some wiring exposed, but the wires are insulated - it would relatively easy to have this repaired by a qualified electrician (ie. wires shortened to where the cord fabric begins) . The temperature dial is labelled "Off, Ray, Silk, Wool, Cot, Lin" and features a white bakelite semi-circular indicator and red bakelite dial knob. The surface of the iron has a few scratches, which is to be expected with so many years of use. And remarkably, it still is in working order after all these years. If the switch is turned to the "off" position, it will remain cold and turned off. As soon as you turn the dial to the right, it will begin to heat up nicely. So, there does not appear to be a fault with the iron's mechanisms. Thanks for looking. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further enquiries.
