An original World War One letter which includes the envelope. The envelope has the send to address of Toledo, Iowa. It is dated, Camp Jackson S.C. July 9th 1918. The letter reads:
Dearest Alice
I just received your letter about ten minutes ago and have a little time before I go to work.....We were called in before the commanding officer and he read off about 50 or 60 names and looked us over and then told us that he was sending our names to Washington D.C. and recommending us for non commission officers and that if we sowed up good in our work there will be commissions open for us....I wanted to be sure and write about your Red Cross canteen work. I don't know just what it is and don't know what to think or say about it. I have been thinking about it ever since I got your letter...............Chrissie
