This wooden Western Electric test-set is marked D86418 on the brass instruction plate and later models are named the 17-E. Two of these 17-Es are currently being auctioned on eBay and are in very nice condition. Mine is not because it's extremely old and was heavily used. (Oh, if this thing could play back the tech-talk that went thru it!) The battery pack obviously leaked and corroded its aluminum shelf which, in succeeding editions, was made of chemical-resistant materials. Test-set components include AC buzzer which responds to central office or magneto generator current, brass-body earpiece, transmitter (behind round brass grill), 29-F wide-bar two-magnet generator, push-button switch, butterfly switch, rotary switch, terminals, capacitor, induction coil, and exploring coil...probably the long, black Bakelite thing pictured at the bottom of each photo column...to listen for RF, ground hum, or a tracing buzzer in cables or phone lines. Magneto generator turns freely but nothing else is tested. Test -set is sold AS-IS. Net weight less than 13 (thirteen) lbs. Test-set (unpackaged) dimensions = 9.5 H, 6.5 W, 5 D. Shipped UPS insured. PayPal accepted. BUY-IT-NOWers not required to pay immediately. Buyer, please wait 'til you get an eBay invoice with total charges with shipping. Canada......Priority Mail only and not cheap to ship.
